Virtualization Keynote at Cloud Expo

IceWEB, a provider of Unified Data Storage and building blocks for cloud storage networks, announced today that the IceWEB Storage System’s platform is now shipping with version 3.0. All upgraded functionality now included in the base level system.

Data Deduplication for Primary Storage

(Zettabyte File System) ZFS-based in-line deduplication is now included in the base price of the system. Customers can now reduce their use of primary storage complimented with bidirectional replication and compression. 3.0’s revolutionary approach to deduplication brings to customers an arsenal of features that have only been available to high-end customers that have made a significant investment into backup, replication, and archiving data. 3.0’s integrated deduplication brings these high-end features to customers not only at significant cost savings but integrated with other high-end features like virtualization as well.

3.0 Virtual Machine Datacenter (VMDC) option is the only product to support VMware, Citrix Xen and Hyper-V virtualization platforms from a single point in a unified environment. Storage administrators can now see their entire virtual environment, provision storage, backup, VM cloning, replicate and set retention policies all from a point and click interface.

Integrated search

Users have at their fingertips the ability to set up an unlimited number of snapshots. We have included indexing and Boolean search in order to enable the management of these snapshots. Using 3.0 search storage, administrators can easily find content within the files that they need to access.

Unlimited snapshots. With the exponential increase in the amount of data stored, snapshots need to become more granular if they are going to be able to be restored in a timely manner. Legacy solutions are limited to up to 255 snapshots. By comparison, 3.0 can accommodate 2 to the 48th snapshots. This means you can run hourly snapshots on all of your data, which in turn means that you can restore data in a timely manner, and that the incremental amounts sent over the network can be smaller than daily updates. Additionally, 3.0 includes snapshot rollback to all earlier versions transparently.

Michael Blackburn, IceWEB Storage System Technologist stated, “3.0 filled in a lot of the missing pieces that our customers have been asking for right out of the box. We have made our platform simple to use, advanced the features of legacy systems and we are doing at a price that won’t break the budget. We took into account what our partners were asking for in terms of unifying corporate storage platforms without the EMC price tag.”
